Caution!!!
This page is filled with information about some of the hottest peppers in the world.  Yes, we like to heat it up sometimes and these peppers will definitely heat up your garden.  Every year, we try to find the worlds hottest pepper so we can provide it to those brave enough to grow, handle, and eat them.

Since we try the fruits and vegetable from every one of our tomato, sweet pepper and vegetable plants, we "unfortunately" also try the fruits of these pepper plants.  I will provide one important piece of advise before trying these peppers - have a lot of milk, ice cream, creamsicles, whip cream, or any other cold dairy product ready.

Bhut Jolokia - "Ghost Pepper"

Hot…very hot…was the worlds hottest a couple years ago but not the hottest anymore. Typical range of 850,000 to 1,000,000 scoville heat units.  It actually doesn't taste too bad once you get past the heat.  The plants produce a lot of peppers.

So this pepper took the "ghost" peppers place as the hottest pepper in the world...until later in 2012 when a new pepper overtook it.  Who would of thought that we needed hotter.  I guess the chili heads love their heat.  This pepper topped out at over 1.4 million scoville units.

This is the current reigning champion of heat.  This pepper has been tested at over 2,000,000 scoville units.  Honestly, I am not looking forward to trying this pepper, but will make the sacrifice for the sake of learning.  Anyone that wants to join me come to the 2013 WSF Tomato Tasting.  Come on...it can't be that bad.  Here is an interesting story on the pepper.  I especially like the part about the capsician penetrating through the latex gloves they wore.  Scary.
